Mayor Expands Summer Hours for 10 DC Pools.

Washington, DC – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser joined residents to kick off the District’s outdoor pool season with the annual celebratory event, “Jump In, DC”at Langdon Park Pool and Spray Park.

“In DC, we view our parks and pools and playgrounds and senior wellness centers not as a luxury, but as must haves – in every neighborhood, in every corner of the District,” said Mayor Bowser. “The investments we’ve made have helped us achieve the #1 ranked park system in the nation, including a world-class system of indoor and outdoor pools for DC families to enjoy throughout the summer.”

Washington, DC was ranked the #1 park system in the country by The Trust for Public Land. The Trust’s survey found that 98% of District residents live within a 10 minute walk of a park.

This summer, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is expanding hours at 10 pool locations. The following pools will open at 10 am instead of 11 am:

  • Anacostia
  • Banneker
  • Francis
  • Harry Thomas
  • Langdon
  • Oxon Run
  • Upshur
  • Kenilworth
  • Happy Hollow
  • Lincoln Capper

Langdon Park Pool and Spray Park, where the Mayor celebrated the start of outdoor pool season, underwent a $3 million renovation in 2018 and is now the only outdoor pool in DPR’s inventory that has a combination pool and spray park.

“The Langdon Pool and Spray Park is an example how we plan to move forward with our outdoor pools by including a splash pad so adults, teens and small children can make the most out of this community amenity,” said DPR Director Delano Hunter. “We thank the community for working with us to create such a unique and innovative space.”

The new Langdon Pool and Spray Park includes:

  • A new pool and all new equipment
  • A new large splash pad area, which includes multiple spray features and a slide
  • More convenient beach entry with 6 lap lanes
  • ADA ramp / handrail into the pools
  • Drinking fountain for people and pets

All DPR outdoor pools and spray parks will be open the following day Saturday, May 25, through Memorial Day (Monday, May 27). Pools then remain open on a weekend-only schedule (Saturday and Sunday) through June 16. Starting Monday, June 17, all outdoor pools will operate on individual summer schedules. All Spray Parks open Saturday, May 25 and operate daily, thereafter, from 10 am – 8 pm.

The Department of Parks and Recreation’s aquatic inventory includes 19 outdoor pools, 11 indoor pools, 23 spray parks and three children's pools. For more information on the summer outdoor pool schedule, visit: dpr.dc.gov/page/outdoor-pools.
